The Scholarship Program
With only a small percentage of youth attending Senior High school, Timor Leste Vision (TLV), in collaboration with the Letefoho community, established a Scholarship Program. This program aims to support the ongoing education of a number of academically gifted students. Students are selected based on their performance in the annual National Examinations, with an equal gender balance.

The Scholarship Program relies on the generosity of Australian based sponsors to fund the high school education of rural students from Timor Leste for a period of three years. TLV works with an In-country Representative to select promising students and assist them in moving to Dili and entering the Senior High School system. After they have completed Senior High School, TLV encourages students to remain in Timor Leste and contribute to the development of their homeland.
TLV have been running this successful program since 2005 and have students engaged in study who would not otherwise have this opportunity. These students now have a greater chance to realise their future goals. One student in the program wants to be a doctor, another, a Priest. Without the support of their sponsors this would not be possible.
To achieve this TLV seeks assistance from local schools, individuals, businesses and other organisations in Western Australia to help provide financial support for academically gifted students. The scholarships cover all educational related expenses for students during the three-year period before they graduate. The cost of this is on average $700 per year, which equates to less than $2 a day!
Once you have made the decision to change a student’s life, and the necessary paperwork has been completed, TLV will provide you with a profile of your student at the beginning of the next school year (September). In addition to this you will receive updates on your student’s progress at the end of each school year (June).
